SEEING VIDEO DIFFERENTLY
Hanno Baethe and Zaki Omar started working together on video
projects in 1992. Hanno has been working with the medium from its early
years, experimenting with the possibilities of what was then in the
1970s "The New Media". Zaki, a journalist who had a desire to move into
image making, learnt the ropes by working with Hanno on his projects. In
1995, they both collaborated under the name InterAct to produce the
video footage for the Hypermedia Project "Berliner sehen" from the
Massachussetts Institute of Technology's Foreign Languages &
Literatures Department. It was their first encounter with the use of video in an interactive
non-linear environment. It was the beginning of many exciting years
experimenting with the "New Media" of the 1990s.
